PRESS RELEASE: 9 July 2019
The Field Sales app provider is one of relatively few tech providers worldwide to achieve global benchmark in data security – ISO 27001:2013 certification – to protect its customers’ business data.
Skynamo Achieves ISO 27001:2013 Certification for Top-Tier Data Security
Skynamo, a leading field sales management and productivity app provider, announced today that it has received ISO 27001:2013 certification. This internationally recognised certification sets the global benchmark for information security management and demonstrates Skynamo’s commitment to protecting customer business data.
Skynamo voluntarily completed the rigorous ISO 27001 certification process to ensure it meets global data security standards and provides the highest level of protection for its customers’ sensitive business information.
“The heavy fine imposed on British Airways this week for last year’s data breach shows just how seriously service providers must take data security,” says Skynamo CEO Sam Clarke. “A data breach can increase the risk of litigation for customers, damage business reputation, and impact revenue if data falls into the wrong hands. That’s why we sought this certification — to ensure we are doing everything possible to protect our customers’ data.”
What ISO 27001 Certification Means
An ISO 27001 certification confirms that a company meets the highest internationally recognised security standards. These standards are developed and agreed upon by members from 164 countries and 783 technical committees and subcommittees. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO), based in Geneva, Switzerland, sets these global standards for information security, data protection, and operational safety.
As of 31 December 2017, The ISO Survey reported that only 7,478 IT companies worldwide were ISO 27001 certified. In South Africa, across all sectors, only 69 companies held this certification.
“The low number of ISO 27001 certified companies worldwide is alarming,” says Skynamo CEO Sam Clarke. “As data breaches become more frequent and their consequences more severe, it’s vital for app providers to complete this certification process to protect their users’ data.”
Skynamo’s ISO 27001 audit was conducted by independent certification provider Sancert. The audit evaluated:
-
Data storage practices across the entire company
-
How employees handle sensitive information
-
Physical security of office premises
The audit also assessed every potential digital, physical, and social breach risk, ensuring comprehensive data protection.
“The 2019 SaaS Survey shows that the average employee uses eight different apps,” Clarke notes. “As an IT manager or business owner, you need to ensure none of these apps pose a security risk. IT departments and business owners should ask their app providers if they are ISO 27001 certified. If they are not, encourage them to get certified.”
